Human genetic and assisted reproductive technologies affect LGBTQI communities in a number of specific ways. While some scientists continue to search for a “homosexuality gene,” opening the door to new forms of genetic discrimination, many LGBTQI community members assert that complex human behaviors like sexuality can’t be reduced to a series of nucleotides. LGBTQI people’s use of assisted reproductive technologies has also helped to challenge discriminatory ideas about what counts as a family, and the meaning of biological relatedness.
