Gene of the Week: Christianity

In our "intriguing occasional feature," gene of the week, we do enjoy giving credit where it's due, for accuracy in reporting. This, from CNNN news [video], is one such case:

Gay scientists have isolated the gene they believe makes people Christian.

Note the careful wording: the scientists, from the Pink Tiger Research Institute, are indubitably homosexual, but their hypothesis is as yet qualified. More worrying is their experimental goal. Says Dr Gary Delaney:

We have already prevented this rat from being born Christian, and hopefully humans will follow.

This kind of risky genetic intervention is neither ethical nor necessary. A related project is offering counseling to local Christians to make "positive changes to their lifestyle and values" (iPhone app expected shortly). Surely we can all support that, while encouraging further research.
