Welcome and Introductory Remarks

Presentation at Gender and Justice in the Gene Age, New York, NY

Welcome and thanks to every one for coming. I know I speak for the entire GJGA team-who I'll introduce to you in a few minutes-when I say that we're very excited about this gathering of amazing people for what we think has the potential to be a landmark event.

As you know, Gender and Justice in the Gene Age is a meeting of feminists who approach reproductive and genetic technologies from a perspective that prioritizes social justice, global inclusion, and human rights in the broadest sense. Let me say a few words about what we see as the goals and objectives of our meeting.

General objectives

One of our key tasks in our two days together will be learning from each other and sharing information about these powerful new technologies, and about how we can best bring our political and social commitments to bear on shaping how they are developed, and on influencing how they are understood, how they are used, and how they are...
