Confronting Eugenics Activities

Overview | Members | Activities

The overarching goal of the initiative is to advance fairness, inclusion, and justice in society by building a more complete understanding of historical episodes of and persistent beliefs in eugenics. Project network members are engaging in a series of virtual and in-person workshops and hybrid public events with the aim of equipping students and broader publics with tools to recognize and resist eugenic impulses in society.

To implement the goals of the Confronting Eugenics project, we created four working groups with the following objectives:
  1. Communicating About Eugenics and Alternative Futures: Develop and refine clear, compelling, and adaptable language about eugenics and anti-eugenic futures that can be used across Confronting Eugenics resources and events
  2. Public Events: Plan two hybrid public events – one in partnership with the San Francisco Disability Cultural Center and one with the University of California Los Angeles Humanities Division
  3. Pedagogical Resources: Develop a collection of pedagogical resources for higher education settings to illuminate and counter eugenic narratives, logics, practices, and policies
  4. Tools and Resources for Advocates: Develop a collection of tools and resources to support anti-eugenic work by advocates and organizations
