Dear friends and colleagues,
For the past twelve years I’ve had the great honor and privilege of serving as executive director of the Center for Genetics and Society. I’ve enjoyed every part of it – the challenging mission, the diverse and ever-changing mix of initiatives, the dedicated staff and leadership, and the impressive network of colleagues that CGS has come to know and work with. I’m proud of everything that all of us together have made happen over these past years.
Now CGS is ready for new leadership, and we've begun a search for a new executive director. We're excited by the prospect of bringing the next generation of ideas and energy into our work. The senior CGS staff, headed by Associate Executive Director Marcy Darnovsky, and the CGS Advisory Board – Francine Coeytaux, Dorothy Roberts and David Winickoff – are actively reaching out to recruit the right person for this job. (See the announcement here and please forward and post.) I’ll be working closely with them on this search; we hope to have someone on board by the end of 2012.
Beginning in 2013 I’ll be a visiting scholar at the University of California at Berkeley College of Natural Resources, where I hope to further integrate the biopolitical concerns we've addressed here at CGS with concerns about ecological integrity, economic justice and global governance.
So this is a transition, not a good-bye. I look forward to continuing to work with all of you, and with everyone at CGS, on the many concerns we share so deeply. Thanks so much for all the support, commitment and energy all of you have brought into the work we've done together thus far.
With highest regards,
Richard
