A new coalition to lobby for stem cell research and other forms of regenerative medicine announced its launch with a recent press release. The Alliance for Regenerative Medicine includes biotech and pharmaceutical companies, venture capital firms, research universities, and existing research advocacy groups. Its goal is "promoting regulatory, research, and reimbursement policies that will foster innovation in regenerative medicine." This implies that the Alliance will not only fight to maintain the status quo of no regulation of stem cell research, but to prioritize payments for eggs for cloning-based work--an issue that's recently bubbled up in New York(1, 2), California, the United Kingdom (1, 2), and Singapore.

But stepping back, given the existance of the Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research, why is a new coalition needed?
